30 Day Blog Challenge - Day 3

Day 3-Your first love

I have thought long and hard about this post... Do I dredge up old memories for a blog post or do I simply avoid the topic and post that my first love was my dog, or my teddy bear, or my mommy?! So... this is what you get...

My first love was a wicked twisted road...

While those are song lyrics - to a wonderful song, might I add... the meaning is completely true. My first love was truly a wicked twisted road. Not necessarily the person... but the relationship as a whole. I was 14 when I met him, he was 17 and it lasted until I was 18 and he was 21. Those are some of the most unstable, insecure years of any persons life and so full of changes. Not to mention, shortly after we met, about 7 states separated us and plane tickets and car rides were expensive and long. Oh, and long distance was expensive as well!

When I think of that time, I remember something he once said to me...

That no matter what you go through, what happens to you as a couple or as people... you will never get away from the sound of the voice of the woman who loves you. It was his attempt to right the wrong of infidelity.

The first love of your life is not always meant to be the only love of your life... and when it's not the only love of your life it is meant to be a stepping stone from which to spring from and a lesson that you must learn. Broken hearts hurt... but in the end, when you find the one who will never break your heart - you just learn to praise God for allowing you to have loved and lost and learned that there is so much more in life.

Here's where his words came from:

Silver Springs
by: Fleetwood Mac

You could be my silver springs
Blue green colors flashin'
I would be your only dream
Your shining autumn, ocean crashing
And did you say she was pretty
And did you say that she loves you
Baby, I don't wanna know

I'll begin not to love you
Turn around, see me runnin'
I'll say I loved you years ago
Tell myself you never loved me, no
And did you say she was pretty
And did you say that she loves you
Baby, I don't wanna know
Oh, no
And can you tell me was it worth it
Really, I don't wanna know

Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you, but you would not let me

Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you, but you would not let me
I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you
You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you

I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you
Was I just a fool?
You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you
Was I just a fool?
I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you
Give me just a chance
You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you

You could be my silver springs
My blue green colors flashin'

So, that is my first love... a wicked twisted road - and one that eventually led me to be the woman my husband married, the woman who birthed my amazing daughter and the person I am today... writing you all of you! God blessed the broken road, right?!
